p is for pomodoro

It's hard to believe that I've been in Italy for almost a week. Last time I was in Rome.. it was only for 2 days. Ridiculous. There is so much to be seen and to do yet that I feel like living here for 4 more months will still not be enough time! Right now I feel overloaded with carbs. Breakfast, lunch & dinner.. too many carbs! How do these Italians do it?! Plus all the damn gelato tempting me on every street corner.. ohhh its bad! Speaking of food though, my roommates and I made our 3rd dinner at home tonight, made pasta and bruschetta. AMAZING! The tomatoes here simply fabulous. In italian, tomato is pomodoro, fyi. And I'm not usually that big of a tomato eater (especially by themselves) but these babies are so tasty. Who needs ketchup when you have the real thing here? Haha..

Super Bowl was last night. Disappointment. I went with a group of like 10 girls to find this pub where some other IES guys were already at. Bad idea! Trying to follow directions written on a napkin? No thanks.. plus apparently I'm the only person who feels its smart/necessary to have a map. So we wandered around for about an hour before we finally found this scottish pub called Highlanders (after asking one taxi driver, one cop, and many passerby). Once we got there, I was in heaven. Cheap beer and lots of TVs! The bar was soo crowded though, with like 75% patriots fans so I got a lot of shit. And I was the only person who was wearing any jersey of any kind. So you can imagine the kind of comments I got last night.. But it was a great time! That is, until the 4th quarter. But let's not go into that.. ugh. I met one other dude from Indiana and 3 other Colts fans so it was nice that I wasnt the only one cheerin for blue.

I'm sitting in my apartment right now freezing to death.. Italians conserve electricity a lot more here (apparently its muy expensive) so the heat comes on maybe 3 times a day? Plus all of these tile floors everywhere.. I really need to invest in a THICK blanket. Brrrrrrr!!!!

I've been missing Buddy a lot more than anybody else lately because I keep seeing dogs EVERYWHERE! Italians let dogs come into stores and cafes.. wherever they want! Which is awesome cause then I get to pet them, but not so awesome cause their shit is all over the cobblestone sidewalks and streets and nobody bothers to clean it up. Great, eh? Yup. Especially when it rains and smears all over the place..

I've also been finding myself missing TV. Italian TV sucks.. badly. There is never anything decent to watch. I might run across an American show every now and then, but besides that, its all horrible movies from like the 1930s, infomercials, and sports. Oh, plus MTV but the channel doesnt 'work' yet so its just one screen shown constantly playing the same exact little techno song over and over and over. I need me some Law & Order, or Desperate Housewives!!! Or at least a cheesy Italian soap opera. Come on..
